LG said that the company will focus on R&D in 2011 and add another 5,000 R&D staff to a total of 31,000 by the end of this year, accounting for approximately 30% of the company's total 110,000 employees, according to a March 16, 2011 report by the Korean Times. It is reported that LG aims to improve growth quality this year, instead of quantity. It is projected that LG will invest 4.7 trillion won (US$4.16 billion; US$1=1129.1 won) in R&D in 2011, up from the 3.7 trillion won (US$3.28 billion) R&D investment in 2010.
